A burn is a type of injury that may be caused by heat, cold, electricity, chemicals, light, radiation, or friction.

Burns can be highly variable in terms of the tissue affected, the severity, and resultant complications. Muscle, bone, blood vessel, and epidermal tissue can all be damaged with subsequent pain due to profound injury to nerves.

Depending on the location affected and the degree of severity, a burn victim may experience a wide number of potentially fatal complications including shock, infection, electrolyte imbalance and respiratory distress.

Snake: reptilia, subordo serfentes, ordo squamata. Rattlesnake consists of 5 families; elapidae, viperidae, hydropidae, crotalidae, colubridae. Venom contains 2 chemicals that are important components: enzym parts and polipeptida protein. But, in general they are devide to two kind effects : Hemotoxic and Neurotoxic.

Clinical symptoms:

I. bite from type viperidae & crotalidae.

Hemotoxic type of venom.

Local: bleeding continues at the former bites, pain, edema ekimosis, bula, gangren.

Systemic: hipotensi, fever, heavy coughing, vomiting blood, melena, gross hematuri - acute kidney failure.

Classification of PARRISH

Grade 0: edema & eritema <2.5 cm / 12 hours I.

Grade I: 2.5 - 12.5 cm / 12 hours I.

Grade II: 15 - 30 cm / 12 hours I.

Grade III:> 30 cm / 12 hours I.

Grade IV, "through extremity / 12 hours I.

Grade II, III, IV systemic interference occurs: hipotensi, nausea, vomiting. Grade IV : coma.

II. Type of Elapidae bites.

Contains Neurotoksin Venom . Local: minimal pain, edema. Systemic: ptosis & trismus, speech & swallow hard, paralise tongue & laryng, salivasi, diplopia, nausea & vomiting, respiratory muscle paralise - failed breath.

III. Hydropidae type of bite. Can be neurotoxic.

How to estimates venomous or not?

I. If snakes can be arrested. Pupil progressively more rounded not poisonous. Have canine teeth poisonous.

II. The form of bite wounds. Half circle not poisonous, have two hole from canine puncture is poisonous.

Wound

- Wound clean (clean wound): such operation wound.

- Clean contaminated wound: happen in internal surgery, such intestine, ureter.

- Clean the wound from dirt with sterile liquid

- Remove dead tissue

Faringitis is an inflammation of the throat (faring). The cause faringitis are 1.faringitis virus 2.faringitis bacteria.

Faringitis may be caused by viruses or bacteria. Most are caused by viruses, including viruses cause common cold, flu, adenovirus, or mononukleosis HIV. The bacteria that cause faringitis is streptokokus group A, korinebakterium, arkanobakterium, Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Chlamydia pneumoniae.

These are risk factors for the cervical cancer:

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease marked by its effect on various parts of the body, including the joints, skin, blood, and kidneys. It is a condition in which the body's immune system attacks its own cells and tissues.

The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) estimates between 1.5 - 2 million Americans have a form of lupus, but the actual number may be higher. More than 90 percent of people with lupus are women. Symptoms and diagnosis occur most often when women are in their child-bearing years, between the ages of 15 and 45.

In the United States, lupus is more common in African Americans, Latinos, Asians, and Native Americans than in Caucasians. Data from Dr Soetomo Hospital from 2003 - 2006, there are 215 patients. In Indonesia there are more than 200.000 patients.

Normally the body's immune system makes proteins called antibodies, to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. These foreign materials are called antigens.

When a person has lupus, his or her body is unable to determine the difference between antigens and the individual's cells and body tissues. As such, the immune system creates antibodies against the individual's own tissues. These antibodies are called autoantibodies.

Inflammation is considered the primary feature of lupus. Inflammation, which in Latin means "set on fire," is characterized by pain, heat, redness, swelling and loss of function, either on the inside or on the outside of the body (or both). For many people, the disease is mild and affects only a few organs. For others, however, the disease can be severe and even life threatening.

There are four types of lupus exist — systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus, drug-induced lupus erythematosus and neonatal lupus occurs quite infrequently. Of these, systemic lupus erythematosus is the most common and serious form of lupus.

Today all food color additives are carefully regulated by federal authorities to ensure that foods are safe to eat and accurately labeled. A food coloring is any substance that is added to food or drink to change its color. Food coloring is used both in commercial food production and in domestic cooking. The food colorings that make candy pretty colors have been linked to cancer and tumors of the brain, thyroid, adrenal gland and kidney in animal studies.

Of course, eating largely fresh, whole foods is the best way to stay away from unsavory additives, but, assuming you do include some processed foods in your diet, the following additives are ones you surely want to stay away from. Look for them on ingredient labels and if one turns up, take a pass.

Tuberculosis

Based on the results of the survey, from 100 thousand inhabitants on average there are 130 inhabitants with the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Influenza

Influenza is a viral infection that affects mainly the upper respiratory tract by the influenza virus. The "upper respiratory tract" includes: the nasal passages, eustachian tubes, sinuses, pharynx, and larynx.

Infection usually lasts for about a week, and is characterized by sudden onset of high fever, aching muscles, headache and severe malaise, non-productive cough, sore throat and rhinitis.

Influenza is a common infectious condition and may occur at any age but is more common and serious in the elderly.

The virus is transmitted easily from person to person via droplets and small particles produced when infected people cough or sneeze. Influenza tends to spread rapidly in seasonal epidemics.

Most infected people recover within one to two weeks without requiring medical treatment. The condition is worse in patients with underlying lung conditions such as asthma or smoking or those with other chronic medical conditions or reduced immunity.

Dengue Fever

Dengue fever is a disease caused by a family of viruses that are transmitted by mosquitoes. Transmitted from human to human or from primate to human by the female Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Dengue fever is a benign acute febrile syndrome occurring in tropical regions. In a small proportion of cases, the virus causes increased vascular permeability that leads to a bleeding diathesis or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) known as dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

The presence (the "dengue triad") of fever, rash, and headache (and other pains) is particularly characteristic of dengue.

In 20-30% of DHF cases, the patient develops shock, known as the dengue shock syndrome (DSS).

Typhoid Fever

Typhoid fever is a bacterial disease, caused by Salmonella typhi.

It is transmitted through the ingestion of food or drink contaminated by the faeces or urine of infected people.

The organism is then spread via the lymphatics while inside the macrophages.

Symptoms usually develop 1–3 weeks after exposure, and may be mild or severe. They include high fever, malaise, headache, constipation or diarrhoea, rose-coloured spots on the chest, and enlarged spleen and liver.

Typhoid fever can be treated with antibiotics. However, resistance to common antimicrobials is widespread.

What is Junk Food

The term “junk food” is used to describe food which is low in nutritional value, with a comparatively high caloric value.

Nutritionists, doctors, and other health advocates often work to educate people about junk food, encouraging them to eat well balanced diets which contain a high proportion of healthy foods.

This term was coined in 1972 by advocates at the Center for Science in the Public Interest who wanted to raise public attention about the issue of foods with a high caloric value and a low nutritional value.

Foods which fall under the umbrella of “junk food” vary, depending on a number of factors. Snack foods like chips, candies, and so forth are generally universally agreed upon as junk food, and some people also lump fast food like hamburgers, pizza, and fries into the junk food category.

As a general rule, no matter what one classifies as junk food, such foods are perfectly safe to eat, as long as they are integrated into a well balanced diet. There's nothing wrong with having some potato chips now and then, but consuming a diet based primarily on junk food is a cause for concern. Because junk food often lacks useful vitamins and minerals, people who eat an exclusive diet of junk food may suffer from nutritional deficiencies which could cause health problems.

Is it any wonder millions of people smoke? A cigarette helps calm us down and even lose weight. The problem is, once a lot of us start smoking, we can't stop. The habit's addictive! Why?

Tobacco contains nicotine, the drug that keeps us coming back. And as we all know the risks of puffing away outweigh the benefits. Nicotine hooks us in, but it's the other 4,000 chemicals that are released as tobacco burns that cause many of the diseases we associate with smoking.

For many years, scientists have been channelling their research efforts into nicotine's addictive qualities, the reason why we keep smoking, even though we know it's bad for us. Their findings have been surprising.

Nicotine does seem to boost concentration, improve memory and control body weight! The downside is, it also adversely affects babies in utero and may explain the link between smoking and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

The hope for the future is that drug companies will be able to separate nicotine's positive properties from the negative and develop drugs for the treatment of everything from Alzheimer's disease to weight control.

Fever is most accurately characterized as a temporary elevation in the body's thermoregulatory set-point, usually by about 1–2 °C (1.8-3.6 °F).

Fever is caused by an elevation in the thermoregulatory set-point, causing typical body temperature (generally and problematically considered to be 37 °C ±1 °C, or approximately 99 ±2 °F) to rise, and effector mechanisms are enacted as a result.

A feverish individual has a general feeling of cold despite an increased body temperature, and increases in heart rate, muscle tone and shivering, all of which are caused by the body's attempts to counteract the newly-perceived hypothermia and reach the new thermoregulatory set-point.

Fever differs from hyperthermia in that hyperthermia is an increase in body temperature over the body's thermoregulatory set-point, due to excessive heat production or insufficient thermoregulation, or both.

A fever is considered one of the body's immune mechanisms to attempt a neutralization of a perceived threat inside the body, be it bacterial or viral.

Carl Wunderlich discovered that fever is not a disease, but the body's response to a disease.

Brazilian Model Died at 20th After Amputee

(CNN) -- Brazilian model Mariana Bridi da Costa, whose hands and feet were amputated in a bid to save her from a deadly and little-known illness, died early Saturday, two friends of the model told CNN.

Brazilian model Mariana Bridi da Costa died Saturday after undergoing multiple amputations.

"Unfortunately Mari couldn't resist any longer. She passed away at 3 a.m. today," Henrique Fontes, executive director of Miss World Brazil, said in an e-mail to CNN.

Da Costa, 20, had fought a pernicious disease that has ravaged her body and forced doctors to perform the amputations and extract part of her stomach as well as both kidneys.

She had been breathing through a respirator, officials at Dorio Silva Hospital in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo said Friday.

Da Costa was first diagnosed as suffering a urinary tract infection. By the time the infection was detected, it had developed into septicemia.

Doctors decided to amputate first her hands and then her feet after the condition reduced the amount of oxygen being delivered to her limbs.

Just less than one month ago, da Costa was a healthy young woman well on the way to achieving her dream of becoming a world class model.

She placed sixth in the Miss Bikini International competition in China last year and took first place for the "Best in Swimsuit" category. In 2007 and 2008, she came fourth in the contest to become Brazil's entrant for the Miss World pageant.

Simoes told CNN that da Costa woke up from a coma 10 days ago and told him how much she wanted to be alive.

"She told me she was praying to stay alive, that she still had a lot to do on this earth, that she wanted to go on with her plans," he said.

"The whole world, I repeat, the whole world is touched by the case of Mariana," it said.
